Day 21: goodbyes are hard!!!!

Even good things come to an end. Chai! Writing this is painful because today I held back tears. As early as 3am I heard "Corper don blow..." and quite some noise as people were either getting ready or already making their way to drop their mattress...dunno. Billy even sent me a message saying "Corper don blow .. Lol! I went back to sleep abeg. Yesterday I packed my things from F2, my hostel and brought it to the clinic...Mini helped me carry them. Not much though...small box and an empty carrier bag. I got up later to meet people dressed and a long queue of people submitting their mattresses. Guys where are you running to???? I hear some were woken up as early as 2am, y'all extra!!!! After taking my bath and dressing up, TomTom helped me get my mattress from my hostel so I can submit it. That mattress storage room is so stuffy! Well, we finished and I repacked and the clinic was cleaned out. I mean CLEANED OUT. Drug cabinet, beds, examining bench, chairs, ...

Day 20: parte after parte!!!!!

We threw a party!!!! Kai! If we draw a curve to show how the number of patients have dipped eh, you'll laugh. I mean people still come for common cold issues and also insect bites (well done Mr Skirt and Blouse/ electric insect! 🙄) but we sit and wait and nothing ghen ghen happens. Except bad alcohol behaviour one time and another time (that matter was wayyyyyy milder) and then distressing cough. The sacrifice of Piriton that was the restocking is even finished sef. What happened today? Here's a random sharing as usual. Someone had a fever and came straight to the pharmacy/me to ask for anti-malaria drugs. I told him to go through the (very free as no patient was there) proper channel so he can be registered properly and given a paper so I can see him. He was most likely febrile and I knew it. Only for him to complain about that and went out and continued going towards the hostel. I had to go out to beg that he stays for them to check his vitals before I see him. I reall...

Day 19: cry cry baby

If needle come one way, take leg comot another way! Today was basic...well until we went to collect allawee. Hallelujah Jesus reigns! But why is it that the allawee isn't put in an envelope with my name on it? But you guys know my name!!!! You know my number!!!!! Why???? Make me happy and give me nicely. Thank you for giving me regardless. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Not many people have been coming to the clinic oh. Even those with drugs are already healed. Drugs like Loratidine and Piriton are like gold! Barely available. Camp is ending they say but we have painkillers and some IV sha. Some had a broken bottle piece pierce the heel of his foot. After cleaning and all (because it really did bleed a bit...but shouldn't be up to 10ml... maybe 5ml sef), he was to get TT. That was how dude went away. By the time he came back finally he told us he ran away because of the TT. When it was time to give him, you should see how he had to be held down. Almost a battle to get ...

Day 18: Today is for picture taking

We're taking clinic pictures today! It's Sunday but I didn't go to church. I had a lazy day really. In fact maybe we all did. I know Dr Chris was threatening to get P-Alaxin to me from today but we bless God that there is NONE!!!! Hallelujah. Even Mini wants me to take it when he couldn't even complete his course with it when he had to take it...stuff broke him down the more sef. I'm hearing that the lady who is asthmatic and who we had sent home about 2 weeks ago and re-sent home again some days ago; is still breathing Afikpo camp air!!! It is well. By afternoon we had the photographer come and we took pictures, all clinic staff...well almost all because some people are not around. I hear that Platoon 7 came 1st in football today. They played the finals with Platoon 1. TomTom went to support his platoon 1. Abeg they tried. I wanted them to win because their leader Gideon seems like such a good leader. Gideon can disturb us in the clinic oh, come to rant ab...

Day 17: sick off for this Beyoncé

**Kai! Ideally this is a day after the camp has ended but I must update this blog from my diary. Here it is.** ***** Today started out cold. Harmattan is real oh. I had gone out to check FBS for one of the camp officials as Dr Chris had earlier instructed. I saw Ponmile going to get his costume for the carnival today and I also saw them setting up for it. Still wasn't feeling so good. I really just wanted to lay down in bed all day.  It was carnival day and it started at about 10am or was it 9am? But who starts so early and ends at about 2pm? Na we for Afikpo! It seems like they had fun sha. All the music and razzmattaz. I didn't even bring jeans to wear sef. Mini really made sure I was taken care of and everyone in the clinic did same for me. Got IM PCM when my temperature started to rise. Later Dr Chris came and said he will give me P-Alaxin. Ah!!!! I'm not taking please 😭. Then Billy came to see me. I felt a lot better by then. Thank you so much guy...

Day 16: can't control me...

What's up?????? That was how I spent about an hour looking for the girl with the shoulder dislocation/pain with Dr Chris. Omo we went from OBS to Jamaica hall to Catering practicals (SAED class) to State coordinator's office! This morning started with us having the camp director around to speak with the patient who had an asthmatic attack last night... edakun, please go home for your health sake. That really was his message. And then looking for the lady as described above. We didn't see her oh. I sent her a text after calling her switched off phone for a while and later in the afternoon she called me when I was back in the clinic. She waited for Dr Chris and everybody is fine. She's not going home💃💃💃 Ah another gist: Mini's phone went missing! Omo we searched for it eh. I had called him before and he didn't pick, I thought he was busy but apparently he was called out to be interviewed by a possible place of primary assignment (PPA). When he came back...

Day 15: Emergency emergency!

Emergency, emergency, you never see me coming through! Say what!??!??!!!! So today was cool. They played volleyball but I don't think we have concluded sha...I mean the finals. Dr Ken (did I mention him? He's the doctor sent by Ministry of health to this clinic to help out) handed over to Dr Chris. I hear Dr Chris is a fun person and nice to work with. Dr Ken was so nice and calm. Thank you sir. Another thing, Platoon 10 was in the kitchen today. My people picked beans tire today but TomTom says Ore was just taking pictures 😁 But she worked sha and was tired sef. We (Mini, Anita, Ore and I) went to collect the money they were sharing to us. Let us pray guys, that the true wealth of this nation will be reflected in our bank accounts and the money we get from our government...Amen. Today TomTom wrote an exeat for me, that I'm causing emotional trauma to Mini...lol!!!!!!! When Mini was taking P-Alaxin for malaria or the time around his taking it; TomTom will blame e...

Day 14: Mary born child

My people!!!!!! This is a short and sweet one. Today was basic. I didn't go for the morning gbas-gbos. I started attending to patients early. Someone presented with what looks like "osteoarthritis of the left knee" with no reasonable history. Brethren sometimes you just think people are malingering to avoid camp activities but physical examination was suggestive of what she said🤷🏽‍♀️ Oh well...we move. We had practice right before the carol and the carol was ok. Some platoons took this thing to their chest oh. We were allowed to use instruments and microphone...we didn't know in our platoon. I guess we just assumed since we had asked for it during our drama presentation. I did a small solo part of 'Joy to the world' as we presented a medley. I can't remember our position but our detractors saying we always come 10th ain't seen nothing yet! We have removed our names for that 10th position. This is 10.1 guys...get with the new program 😁😁😁...

Day 13: omoge show me your power

I did the Man 'o' war drills!!!! Yay!!!! Today has been amazing. I had heard that we (platoon 10) were having our Man 'o' war drills today (actually Billy told me), so I took a bath, wore my clothes...only for me to be told that it was in the afternoon. Wo! I just stayed back in the clinic. We probably had patients sef (well now you know, I'm writing this days after... I'm sorry guys 😭😭😭). Here's a quick highlight: -Amurt: well these people came to speak and interview us as regards working with them as doctors in this state. Their package is nice and it seems like a whole lot of adventurous fun! But let's face it, they looked at me and said something about me not going to be able to do the work and also me relocating...oh well, let's just conclude they've rejected me already but thats ok..." I've said thank you for their offer but no thank you this way but I'll like to work with them later" -Man 'o' war drill: ...

Day 12: Dangote poor ke?

Edakun, when was Dangote poor? Kai! I made the soldiers tell Fubsy and I to squat many times because I was late going to the parade ground. But blessed be God, everything went well. We hear that the area commander is coming today so everyone is on their best behaviour.  I'm currently at Jamaica hall receiving a lecture. Na real drill be this oh, 6am dey receive lecture. Thank God I have had my bath.  He's talking about illegal migration. He sha mentioned that Dangote was poor when he started out. How????? Abegiii. .... So that's how we were released about 7:25am and told that we'll be back by 8:30am. Well, Billy and I went to Mami market and got things for the guys. I went to the clinic, saw a few patients and went back to the hall as they had already blown the beagle by 8am...I know right! That was not the plan but we move. As I was entering the hall, Mr Obinna my platoon officer called me. I know I didn't try sha, I should have checked in him sha.....

Day 11: No socials!!!

Happy birthday Fara ❤️ It was a chilling day. Brethren there was no socials today so my night shift was a breeze. I mean, no one came here to feign illness. What did I do today? 1. Church: NCCF. Had Dr Chidi from Enugu come to preach. Mikky, Mini and I went but Mini left before the sermon because he wasn't feeling too well. 2. Mami market: Billy was in church so after he joined Mikky and I as we went to get food and water. We got for Mini, be really liked the vegetable soup. 3. Ate, changed to my white and white (because we wear mufti in the morning till 1pm), took a nap. 4. Work: was a sweep because no one really came. Of course I saw patients through the day but nothing crazy. 5. Spoke with Ebi and Louis. Chilled with Billy in the clinic. Mini needs rest oh...because he has been down for a bit. At Mami market after church Outfit of the day Photos by Billy and Yusrah. Thanks guys. With chilled day vibes, 2400

Day 10: winners nonetheless

Congratulations on your wedding Dr and Mrs Dika!!! How far na? Let me give you the bullet points for the day because nothing extraordinary happened. Well, Mr Boniface isn't feeling too well and he wore this funny head warmer like it was winter. Get well soon sir! 1. I didn't go for morning drill, Mini went. Billy helped me with food this morning, thank you Billy. 2. Work work work work work and sleep. Ah! Yesterday I bought superyogo and took it oh...my gastrointestinal tract was not having it. And Felicity cautioned me oh! I really wanted something cold/icey...it's a bit of lactose intolerance: lesson re-learnt. But today I was in some pain as I spoke with Iyaji on phone, literally and abdominal upset. Mini was kind enough to get me food too...thank you Mini. 3. I hear they had Mr&Miss Hot legs and my platoon 10 came 5th for Miss Hot legs. Also Mr Handsome: 3rd position. Thank you Thompson, we are proud of you. Well as that was going on we the guys at the cl...

Day 9: we dive and go

We dive and go I went for morning drill. Yes, ladies and gentlemen I went for morning drill. What is it with man 'o' war songs and how funny they are. Today we sang while jogging I heard "we die aro", I was shook. I had to ask until I heard well "we dive and go, anywhere we hear gunshot, we dive and go". It was fun. After the drill we had a lecture, them NDLEA guys. Ange make una no do drugs. Right after that I was in clinic either chilling or attending to patients. As SEAD lectures was going on, Mini was called to bring 2 persons to see some officials. Apparently if was to do some official signings; so to sign our certificate and other things. It was a kind gesture as we are usually in the clinic...right before the rush, they allowed us. I also corrected my name (just changed the capital letter to small letter). When that was over I followed Mini to Mami market to get a haircut; brethren the fine boy re-emerged! What other interests thing happened ...
